Houston (May 20, 2010) – Bullpen Marketing is proud to announce three clients which received the American Marketing Association’s Houston Crystal Awards this past Thursday. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston received the AMA Crystal Award for Corporate Citizenship, Co-Cathedral for Promotional Product and St. Pius X High School for Outdoor Advertising.

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston won in the category of Corporate Citizenship for their Steps for Students campaign, which is an annual 5K race to provide financial aid for inner city students attending Catholic Schools. Bullpen Marketing donated the design for posters, brochures, t-shirts, advertisements and more to spread support for the campaign.

The Co-Cathedral received the Promotional Product award due to their outstanding fundraising using carved stone crosses. The recent purchase of the old Federal Reserve building left the Co-Cathedral needing more funds to create an appropriate work space. Bullpen Marketing helped their fundraising efforts by creating crosses from the Co-Cathedral’s limestone surplus as limited, numbered memorabilia.

St. Pius X High School won the Outdoor Advertising category for their billboard which was displayed from December of 2009 to April 2010 off of 610 and San Felipe in the Galleria area. Bullpen Marketing collaborated with the high school in order to form the, “Start Here. Go Anywhere,” campaign and included it on an outdoor billboard display. Bullpen was also responsible for the photography, design and layout of the billboard. “We’re very proud to have been a part of all three of the winners’ campaigns,” said Colin Hageney, Bullpen’s president and CMO. “The best part was the sincere gratitude that each client expressed. It’s the ‘thank yous’ that keep us motivated and keep us wanting to do even better next time.”

The AMA Crystal Awards are judged on a series of criteria: challenge, objective(s), strategy, message alignment and results. Each of these criteria is scored upon by a panel of judges from outside of the Houston area. The AMA Crystal Awards recognize a collection of categories pertaining to marketing projects; those that win Crystal Awards have used an extraordinary amount of creativity to achieve outstanding results.

HOUSTON, TX (June 9, 2008) – Bullpen Marketing, a Houston-area marketing company specializing in promotional products strategy and a wide range of marketing services, won the American Marketing Association’s Crystal Award for the best Promotional Product Marketing Campaign.

Crystal Awards recognize various categories of marketing projects that have used creativity to achieve exceptional results in a best of class manner. The award presented at the 22nd Annual AMA Crystal Award banquet highlighted the low budget viral marketing campaign that Bullpen orchestrated for Bohemeo’s.

“We wanted to do something that would drive business to this eclectic art and music café located in the East End of downtown Houston,” said Robert Melvin, vice president, general manager of Bullpen Marketing. “We decided to create a buzz about what makes the people from the East End special and why people love this area. So, we made Bohemeo’s the catalyst for that spirit with a viral marketing campaign ‘East End People Keep It Real’.”

It is unusual for a t-shirt design to take top honor in an award category that typically favors extraordinary promotional product concepts. Surprisingly, the walking and talking advertisements of the t-shirts won surpassed the competition.

“Bohemeo’s is elated over our Crystal Award, and it is a real recognition of our efforts to become a social hub in the East End for artists, musicians, writers, and admirers of such crafts,” said Lupe Olivarez, principal owner of Bohemeo’s. “We truly appreciate the creativity of Bullpen Marketing to craft such a catchy and infectious slogan, ‘East End People Keep It Real’. Someone stopped me every time I wore the t-shirt in public, and the staff of Bohemeos, friends, and family wore these t-shirts practically everywhere.”

Bullpen Marketing also won the Crystal Award in the Logo Design category with St. Agnes Academy’s Tiger. This is the second year in a row that Bullpen topped the extremely competitive Logo Design category. The company won it in 2007 with St. Pius X High School’s Panther.

HOUSTON, TX (June 2, 2008) – Bullpen Marketing, a Houston-area marketing company specializing in promotional products strategy and a wide range of marketing services, won the American Marketing Association’s coveted Crystal Award for Logo Design this year. This is the second year in a row that Bullpen topped the extremely competitive Logo Design category. The company won it in 2007 with St. Pius X High School’s Panther, and this year with St. Agnes Academy’s Tiger.

“Capturing the spirit or essence of a school in the form of a mascot is perhaps the most challenging thing that we do,” said Colin Hageney, president of Bullpen Marketing. “Unlike the corporate world, the school athletic logo is something the students are very passionate about – in which they literally rally around, dress up as, paint on their faces and cheer to victory! Winning a Crystal Award for St. Agnes Academy, a Houston institution for over 100 years, is a badge of honor for our creative team.”

The marketing victories in Logo Design are unusual because both projects were school mascots. Academic clients are always up against stiff corporate competition. Often, there is more money behind company projects than school projects, and that makes it difficult for schools to contend in professional marketing competitions. However, the overwhelming positive results from both mascot redesigns helped clinch the victory for each school. In the entire 22-year history of the Crystal Awards, Bullpen is the first company to capture the Logo Design category two years in a row.

“St. Agnes is very excited about our Crystal Award win in recognition of our efforts to represent the mission and vision of our school. An official mascot logo to represent the Academy’s dynamic school spirit was long overdue,” said Megan Clark, Director of Communications at St. Agnes Academy. “Thanks to partnering with Bullpen Marketing and working with students, parents and alumnae, we are proud of our award-winning tiger that graces everything thing from bumper stickers to t-shirts.”
The new Tiger made its official public debut at St. Agnes’s Athletic Awards Banquet on Wednesday, May 16th, 2007.

Bullpen Marketing also won the Crystal Award in the Promotional Product Marketing Campaign category with Bohemeo’s “East End People Keep It Real.”

HOUSTON, TX (May 18, 2007) – Bullpen Marketing, a marketing firm specializing in promotional products strategy and a wide range of marketing services, received two Crystal Awards this week at an event hosted by the Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA). Bullpen accepted awards for outstanding Logo Design and Individual Promotional Item.

“The Crystal Awards allows us to illustrate our year’s best work,” said Colin Hageney, president of Bullpen Marketing. “We’ve had a successful year thanks to our partners and clients, who make these projects triumphant.”

From promotional products to Internet marketing campaigns, the 21st annual Crystal Awards consists of 50 different categories. Bullpen’s pen-turned-USB-drive, initially designed for the AMA’s Mplanet™ conference, won the Individual Promotional Item category. The bright orange pen doubled as a USB flash drive, which was preloaded with all conference materials, and packaged in a silver and black alloy case.

Bullpen also competed in the Logo Design category with its makeover of St. Pius X High School’s logo. The St. Pius project was a complete overhaul of the school’s dated logo featuring the panther mascot. The new design has a custom font, and the text can be customized for each extracurricular activity.

“The school had stadium cushions created with the new logo design,” said Hageney. “The manufacturer of the cushions liked the mascot so much they included it as an example in their new catalog.”

The winners were recognized at a reception hosted by the AMA, Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 6 p.m. in the Crystal Ballroom of Post Rice Lofts.

CHICAGO, IL (July 24, 2006) – The AMA Houston Chapter announced today that Colin Hageney, President of Bullpen Marketing, has been elected President of the American Marketing Association’s Professional Chapters Council (PCC). Hageney was president of AMA Houston from 2000-2002 and was the first Houstonian on the PCC when he first joined it in 2002.

The Professional Chapters Council is a select group of 10 volunteer professionals, nominated from past-presidents of the 73 AMA chapters across the United States and Canada. PCC members are selected based on their proven excellence as a chapter leader and their leadership in marketing in their local business communities. The PCC’s vision is to support a growing number of professional chapters that continue to thrive and succeed through a solid stream of passionate, dedicated leadership, providing innovative, high-impact programming to an ever increasing membership roster.

While on the PCC, Hageney was chair of the 2004 Leadership Summit in Chicago as well as the chair of the Chapter Excellence Awards. Hageney also started numerous PCC initiatives including web conferences with chapter leaders around the country, an online speaker directory and a chapter reserve reinvestment program.

“I am excited to have Colin as the new President of the Professional Chapters Council,” stated Ric Sweeney, the immediate past-president of the PCC. “Colin’s experience and outstanding performance as a two-term president of the Houston chapter, his dedication to helping others, and his commitment to growing the marketing profession are the qualities the AMA looks for in its greatest leaders.”

Dennis Dunlap, AMA’s Chief Executive Officer, added the association’s perspective. “The PCC is one of four Councils that make up the core of AMA’s membership value delivery. In 2005, the Professional Chapters Council and associated volunteers dedicated over 2,500 hours of service to our members,” Dunlap explained. “Knowledgeable, committed volunteers like Colin enhance local AMA chapters by assisting them with effective chapter management and by providing them with tools to deliver and communicate the wealth of AMA membership benefits and professional resources.”
